The Gift of Giving

It truly is better to give than to receive.  Today we talked about the power of giving.  We read a very moving story called, The Match Girl, written by Hans Christian Anderson.

It is story about a little girl who sells matches to help support her family.  During a very cold winter the little girl imagines what it would be like to have a warm house, food to eat, and warm clothes to wear.  She said the only person who had ever shown her kindness was her grandmother. When we finished one student asked if it was a real story.  We talked about what it would be like to only have one person show us kindness or be nice to us!  Although the story took place many years ago we talked about how this is happening in our own communities. This sparked a conversation about giving and how we can help those less fortunate than us.

Our school is involved in a Christmas Hamper drive where we "adopt" a family and provide them with gifts and food during the Christmas season. We made a Christmas card for our family to go with our gifts.

Thank you to the parents and students of Division 10 for making Christmas a little brighter for others!
