Today was our first day back after our winter holiday and were we ever busy! Our day started off with "Monday Mingle!" This is a time for us to "catch up" with all our friends and listen to what they did over the break. Who doesn't to love to chat with friends after being away for 2 weeks!
Next, we chose our new table names - always a fun activity. We are getting much better at compromising and finding ways to solve problems when we can't agree on a name.
Then we read a story and reviewed some reading strategies we had learned last term. We also talked about a new one. . .
Then we got a sticky note and chose a book to read. When we used one of the strategies we wrote what strategy we used on the sticky note to share tomorrow.
This afternoon we started a novel called, The Tales of Despereaux, by Kate DiCamillo. While Mrs. Betts read the first two chapters we listened and made pictures in our head of what the main character (who is a mouse!) looked like based on the way the author described him. At the end of the day we shared our pictures and compared them to the author's picture.
To make it even better - it snowed overnight so we got to play in the snow a bit!
Have you ever seen one of these? Its a snowball maker!
A snowman! I wonder if he'll last until tomorrow?
It was a wonderful day of learning! What did you do on your first day back?
PS. We also started a new unit in Math- we are learning about geometry! Check back soon to see what we are learning!
