Beach Adventures!

Last Wednesday was our beach field trip.  We were very excited!  We started our day with a book called, Looking Closely Along The Shore. It showed a close up picture of something you would find at the beach and then gave us clues and we tried to guess what it was.  It was a great review of some of the animals and plants we have been learning about and that we were hoping to see!

After reviewing some of the animals we had talked about we were given the challenge to choose one and find three interesting facts about it. We also had to draw and label a diagram of the animal we chose.  We used our iPads and had a lot of fun finding interesting facts and information about different animals.

Sharing some learning!

Wondering if we'll find some sand dollars at the beach today???

So focused. . .  learning about sea anemones!

Finally it was off to the beach!
We met our "Beach Heroes" at the top of 101 stairs and walked down to the beach.

Once we were there we listened carefully to how to lift and look for creatures and how to put the rocks back carefully so we didn't hurt the animals.

Then it was our turn to explore the sea shore and look for creatures.  We found so many "treasures."

A singing fish!  Unfortunately, it wasn't alive!

Eggs from some sea creature

Look at the barnacles on this rock!

After a picnic lunch we went down to a sandy area to dig and build together before returning to the school.  Several of us continued to explore in the tide pools while others built sand castles and dug for clams.

It was a fabulous day for exploring the beach.  Special thanks to the parents who joined us on this trip!  We couldn't do it without you!

Have you ever found interesting sea creatures at the beach?  Have you researched any to find out all about them?
