Global Read Aloud ~ Reflections

After reading the first two chapters of "Marty McGuire," by Kate Messner with Mrs. Schnare's class as part of the Global Read Aloud we recorded some words and phrases that we thought would describe Marty McGuire.  Here is a web of our thinking.

This started a great discussion about character traits and what kinds of things we like to do. Mrs. Betts put up the question:  Would you rather dress up and dance or join Marty in catching frogs?   We predicted that most of us would rather catch frogs and our prediction was accurate.   This led to a discussion about dancing and dressing up.  When we talked further we discovered that many of us would have chosen dancing if it was by itself and that it was dressing up we didn't like.  I think some of us thought we might have to dress up in  fancy dresses!

What would you rather do?  Dance or catch frogs?

I wonder what we'll learn this week when we read the next chapters!

We liked reading your post about Marty McGuire. If I was in your class, I would choose to catch a frog instead of dress up. I thought it was cool how you graphed your votes. I am now wondering, do you like reading the book?
