Data Analysis

These last two weeks, we have been working on analyzing data.  We talked about the different types of graphs and how people collect data.  We read a book about graphing and then we started conducting surveys to gather information about a variety of topics. The first survey we did was to find out what season everyone's birthday was in.   We used a tally to help us gather our information, and then graphed it on a bar graph.  After graphing it, we wrote comparison statements to talk about which season had the most birthdays, the fewest, and how many more birthdays were in one season compared to another season.

This week we made a pictograph.  We first talked about the signs of spring, and then we made pictures to describe the various signs that we see around us.  After making our pictures, we graphed them onto a long chart paper and wrote statements to show what our pictograph tells us!

Next week we hope to survey another class through Skype, and we'll keep you posted on the results!  Have you ever conducted a survey?  Do you know how to keep a tally?
