During the last few weeks our class has been learning about animal groups. We have looked at birds, fish, mammals, reptiles and amphibians. From our reading we learned about the special features of each group. We have used a variety of sources of information . . . books, our iPads, videos on Discovery Education, posters and of course of our own knowledge. When looking and listening to the information about each group of animals we were working on picking out the most important facts. We became very good at using words like "most" "some" and "all" to refine our thinking.
While we were looking at books we learned a lot about the features of non fiction text too! We know that they have a table of contents, real photos, real facts, a glossary (which is like a mini dictionary), and bold words. We also know that you don't have to read a non fiction book from start to finish!
Look what we discovered about each group of animals!
After circling all the important facts on each poster we noticed that all these animals have a backbone!
At times we used the iPad to make a Popplet with our information and sometimes we used Draw and Tell to show what we learned.
Do you have a favourite animal? Do you know what group it would belong to . . . is it a mammal, a bird, a fish, a reptile or an amphibian?
