The Next Step

Last week we reviewed the features of nonfiction text.  Today, as a group, we brainstormed for the headings we would use if we were going to write a book about an animal (which we are going to do!).  The headings we came up with were:  Appearance, Habitat, Diet and Life Cycle.  Mrs. Betts added another heading called Interesting Facts - she said that is where we could record information that didn't fit in any of the other categories.   Next, we read a book about Giraffes.  As Mrs. Betts read we had to listen for the important facts about the appearance of a giraffe.  Then Mrs. Betts modeled how to take the information and put it in notes under the correct headings.  We made our own copy too.

We are practicing how to do this because we are eventually going to write a book about a Canadian animal.  We plan to use the app Book Creator to make our books.

Have you ever done something like this?  Have you used the app Book Creator?  It is a very fun app to use.  We each made a book about Matter in Science.
